I guess I will start out this page with a photo of my reef. This is a 58 gallon Oceanic tank with a matching cabinet. The light source is provided by 3 VHO fluorescent bulbs operated by an Icecap ballast; two white and one actinic blue. I use an Aquanetics drop-in chiller to keep the water at a constant 76 degrees. The reef contains 120 pounds of live rock, and is populated with a variety of soft and hard corals with a few reef fish to add some color. This photo was captured using a KODAK DC120 digital camera.

This beautiful reef tank is owned by Justin Pierce of Orlando, Florida. This is a 55-gallon tank running without mechanical filtration. Justin prefers to use the Berlin system of natural biological filtration through the use of live rock. A protein skimmer is used for removing waste products from the water.

Here is another view of Justin's reef tank. The tank is lit by German 10k metal halide lights and VHO lights running from an Icecap ballast. The tank is populated mostly by SPS (Small Polyp Stony) corals.

This beautiful reef tank belongs to Sean Harrison of Durban, South Africa. This impressive masterpiece is 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length. Based on the Jaubert system, it features home made surge generation, Tunze protein skimming, home made calcium reactor, and canister phosphate security. Sean uses a combination of natural sea water and synthetic sea water to maintain a quality environment.

Here is close-up view of Sean Harrison's reef. Sean is a quadriplegic due to arthritis with complications and has been for many years. He and his family are the owners of Northlands Pets in Durban North. Sean's continued enthusiasm, good humor, energy and interest in life is a testimony for us all, and a humble lesson in overcoming adversity.

Here is yet another close-up of Sean's reef aquarium. These photos and the included information were submitted to Sea and Sky by Sean's close friend, Mark Brokensha. Sea and Sky would like to salute Shawn and his family and friends for a splendid reef creation and an incredible story of human willpower. Thanks for sharing!
